The first time I saw him "Frisco" was six months old and I fell in love with him immediately. I thought I wanted a dog exactly like that! He was very strikingly noticeable because at his very first show he stood like a statue. Such a beautiful puppy - but no movements were to be seen - he didn't move at all! It was a cocker show and I worked as ring secretary. The judge was as fond of him as I was and had wanted him as her Best In Show puppy - but could of course not put him up as she hadn't seen him move a single step. I saw him two more times, at 10 months old. He moved a liiiiiitle bit more, but not much. But if anything he was even more beautiful. At that time I was editor of the cocker magazine and I was asked to do Inger Ivarsson, kennel Westerner's advert for the yearbook. When I sent the advert back to her for proof reading I also sent her a note about that if she ever produced something that looked a bit like Frisco I would be very interested. The day after she called... It was lucky I sat down because he was offered to me. He came to us when he was 12 months and I think that is something neither Inger or I have regretted. I got a lovely dog here at home, and when he started to understand that shows were great too, I also got a really lovely show dog! Inger was able to have him matched at shows in another way that she had the opportunity to do - and we formed a very good friendship with each other! Frisco was among the ten top winning cockers over many years and was also Cocker Veteran of the Year 2000. He is a dog who has meant a lot to me, but also for the breed as he lives on in many cockers around the world. Frisco became almost 13 years old. |
One of many winning progeny groups. This picture is of his Best In Show group at the Cocker Spaniel Club's championship show in Kungälv, september 1997, where his daughter Westerner Wild At Heart won CC & BOB (handled by me, thanks for that experience Inger!) and Frisco himself was second best dog. At the picture, from the left: "Frisco" Swed Sh Ch Westerner Blowin' Free, "Hobbe" Swed Sh ch Westerner Walkin' On Air, Swedish Winner-99, Swed Sh Ch Gropcock's Singing The Blues, Shakima's Youngster From Heaven and Swed Sh Ch Westerner Wild At Heart. |
